You’ve made it. Welcome to the home for cassette lovers. Much like an 80s movie time machine, Cassette Case is your blast to the past, instantly transporting, or shall we say rewinding, you to the place for cassette tape nostalgia, while simultaneously showcasing the best – and worst – of cassettes and cassette-worthy music. We’re dedicated to listening to and talking about each genre of the cassette age to find out what they meant back then and what they still mean to us today.
Compact cassettes, also known as audio cassettes, or simply tapes, were a key music format from the late 1970s into the 1990s. Initially gaining prominence in the 70s as another, more portable and durable, way to enjoy music, cassettes dominated the 1980s both in sales of new issues and releases on music clubs like Columbia and BMG. While these pocket-sized companions were outshined by the compact disc in the 90s, and may not be as big as they once were, cassettes will always be number one in our hearts – and in our boom boxes.
We love cassettes and wholeheartedly celebrate the bad (like Michael Jackson “Bad” – meaning good), and seriously bad (as in just plain terrible) music, mixtapes, bands, cassette cover art, lyric inserts and everything else that made the cassette era great. When we love something, we LOVE it (U2 War, The Boss, Michael Jackson, The Ramones, Beach Boys, The Cure. etc. … we’re certainly not shy with our love), and when we hate something or someone (Rod Stewart – this means you – you are the anti-cassette) we HATE it.
So go on, press play and step into our ever-evolving, cassette time capsule. Check out the merchandise, read the blogs, join the conversation, and above all, listen to those cassettes.
Remember – If your car doesn’t have a cassette deck – BUY AN OLD ONE!
Keep on Cassetting!
